Wanganui/Horowhenua - April 2016

Well with our sailing season nearly over here in Wanganui we have quite a tight series between Grant, Stew and myself and only 1 more weekend of sailing before the season is finished.

We just held our Wanganui regatta on the 12th and 13th of March with some close racing from the PT’s. One race had at least 10 wind shifts and you could not pick who would win, in the end it was Andrew Montgomery who had the luck of the wind on his side in that race.

Wellington - March 2016

As usual at this time of year, the holiday season and then Nationals takes the focus away from club sailing, so not much to report that probably hasn’t been covered elsewhere.

A welcome to the Wellington PT fleet goes out to Fabian Beveridge, PT3074, “Scram”. Fabian has come through the Worser Bay junior programme and RPNYC Youth scheme and hopefully will lure some other young sailors over to the joys of PT sailing. Also to Chris Moller, who has bought PT2362, “White Lightnin”, which has undergone a Scott Barker tidy up and is back on the water. Chris sailed PT 506 in his younger days and apparently never got the bug out of his system. Looking forward to seeing you on the water guys.

Paper Tigers on the prowl in the Deep South

Whilst the PT fleet numbers may be small in the south there has still been the odd PT sail gracing the various regattas around the regions. On the Otago Harbour the two regular Paper Tiger’s on the race track have been Ken Hargraves on his PT ‘Ninja’ which Ken purchased from out of Christchurch and Graeme Wall on his rebuilt PT ‘Tiger Woods’, which also came out of Christchurch a number of years back.
Further south at the Owaka Yacht Club Mark Preddy on his PT ‘Hot Mamma’ has been keeping the PT flag flying and is joined by a couple of other Tigers in the club racing there. Down at Riverton Wayne Muntz is still sailing his PT ‘Zig Zag’.

Hawkes Bay - March 2016

The Napier fleet is still going strong. As a group we have travelled to most traveller series regattas this season and have had some success. Hayden is continuing to improve this season and looks set to claim Traveller and Fresh Water series honours.

It seems the rig development we have been doing as a group has improved all our performances. This was evident at the recently completed Turangi regatta where Hayden won 7 from 8 races with a good margin to the rest in most of those wins. Impressive also was Nathan's performance to come second overall and I am sure it was not a one off. I think there will be a lot of tough close sailing coming in our club champs this year.

We are looking forward to the rest of the season and a good showing at the upcoming Internationals.
See you all there.
