All NZPTOA sanctioned regattas are contested as an overall fleet as well as at three grading levels (A, B & C) to ensure close competition for competitors at all levels of experience. This has been a great initiative and has encouraged the development of skills at all levels of the fleet for the nearly 30 years it has been used.

At the 2016 Class AGM the grading system was discussed and a new system introduced. The new system will:
• Split the fleet into three grades (as per previously A, B & C)
• An individual sailor’s grade will be based on their Nationals results
• The best 2 of the last 3 results for any individual sailor will count
• For a result to count they must have sailed at least 50% of races at the event
• If you have never attended a Nationals, then you will not have a grading
• A new sailor to the fleet will not be graded until the end of their first Nationals

Important Note: This is a grading system; it is not a current national ranking system!
